• The road now runs through ten kinds of country: meadow, farmland, village, forest, riverside, lakeside, desert, seaside, mountain pass and snowfield, each with its own ground under the hooves and its own sounds. You start in meadow and farmland, and your best streak of the ride unlocks the rest, from village and forest at a streak of 3 to the snowfield at 20. The game names each place as you ride into it, and some country is busier than others
• Press L, or B on a controller, to hear where you are: the place, then the country it belongs to. It works after you are thrown too
• Horses now sound right on sand, wooden planks and snow
• Dogs on the road: one stands in the road or runs straight at you. Listen for its barking from afar, its panting up close and its growl when it is near. Near a stream, river or fountain a dog may be drinking quietly at the edge of the road
• Donkeys on the road: strays eating in the road, loose donkeys, ridden donkeys, donkey carts, and strings of two to five in single file. They bray, often at your horse as you come near, and a loose or ridden donkey may stop dead for a few seconds before walking on. Up to three donkeys may also cross the road in front of you
• Camels on the road: strays, loose camels, ridden camels, heavy camel carts, and caravans of two to six in single file. Every camel wears a bell, higher than a sheep's, and groans now and then. Up to three camels may also cross the road in front of you
• A string of donkeys or a caravan of camels counts as one obstacle, like a flock of sheep: touch any animal in it and the whole line leaves the road for one patience, get all of it past you and your streak goes up by one
