Dust and Distance
Take the reins and see how far the road will carry you in Saddle and Steam: Dust and Distance, an endless horseback riding game built around careful listening, quick decisions, and the growing challenge of staying in control at speed.
Your horse moves forward on its own while you choose the path and the pace. Steer around approaching riders, horse-drawn carriages, wandering cattle, flocks of sheep, and animals crossing the road. Every clean pass builds your streak, increases your scoring potential, and brings you closer to unlocking faster gaits-from a steady walk and trot to canter and, eventually, a full gallop.
But greater speed comes with greater risk. The longer your streak becomes, the busier the road gets and the less time you have to react. Push for close passes and faster gaits to earn more points, or slow things down when the road becomes too dangerous. One collision can break your streak, reduce your available speed, and cost your horse some of its limited patience.
Your horse starts each ride with only so much patience. Crashes and standing still for too long wear it down, and when that patience is gone, your ride is over. Keep an ear out for carrots along the road when things start going badly-collect enough and you can earn some patience back, giving you another chance to keep going.
The road itself comes alive through sound. Hooves reveal approaching riders, rolling wheels warn of carriages, bells distinguish cattle from sheep, animals call from the roadside before crossing, and steam trains thunder along the railway beside you. Learning what you hear-and deciding how to react before it reaches you-is at the heart of every ride.
There is no finish line. There is only the road, your horse, and the question of how much farther you can go before one of you has had enough.
